Chrissy Reid
August 25 - November 18 2023
Chrissy Reed just returned from a trip to Japan where she visited Tokyo and Kyoto. She and Noah traveled through tiny fishing villages and mountain towns and ended in Hiroshima. She finally tasted all the beautiful food from sushi and okonomiyaki, to the best ramen and yakitori samplings found in tiny little restaurants. She relished in the landscape as her train traveled around Mount Fuji and was awed by the beautiful Japanese gardens. She delighted in the balance, order, system of rules and manners, and the utmost attention to beauty, freshness and detail found there.
This attention to detail, this ability to create balance and beauty, flows over into all aspects of Chrissy’s life from her amazing garden where textures and color and scale combine in a floral and edible delight for people and pollinators, to her fabulous haircuts, making her clients gorgeous through great aesthetic choices, to her construction job where she helps to create beautiful new spaces, to her delicious dinners made with the freshest ingredients. And, now, you are invited to enjoy another of her visual pleasures, a new series of paintings, Blobbies.
Chrissy’s new works are minimal but there’s still a lot going on. They are playful and poignant. Blobs are set in environments consisting of color or shape, both are painted in super considered color pallets. Each painting does something different: one blob hangs heavily over an edge, one seems to sail away, two flirtatiously almost bump together and so on and on. She has done it again, painting fresh, fun, beautifully balanced works!

She was a member of 4 Coursemen, a much beloved Athens, farm to table supper club. She currently works on the Level-ish construction crew demolishing and rebuilding spaces. Chrissy is also a hair stylist taming (or volumizing) the manes of Athens’ finest.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I am dipping my toe back into making paintings. I have always been drawn to large pools of color. I started making works to hang on my own walls, shapes that have a little personality and colors that pop together.
